New York Museum of the City

The Museum of the City of New York is an interesting museum to visit.  It was established during the early 1920s. The museum is nonprofit but it does collect entrance fee from the tourists. The purpose of the museum is to keep a collection of all kinds of materials in New York.

The New York Rises: Photographs by Eugene de Salignac showcases the photographs taken by a man who has been with the New York City Department Bridge/Plants and Structures for thirty years.

Timecapes is a multimedia show that tells how the New York City becomes settled by the European and African immigrants. The 25 minutes shows inform the audience how the New York is transformed from a tiny settlement into the world largest metropolitan.

The exhibition titled “Perform” informs the visitors how the theaters in New York are developed. In this exhibition, you will find a variety of costumes and photographs. By exploring the costumes and photographs, you will learn about the development of the theatre in New York City. You will find out how art had impact on the city.

The exhibition titled “New York Interiors” lets visitors explore the environment where the Dutch settlers used to live many years ago. The exhibition covers the period from the earliest settlement to the modern period. It is interesting to explore the different time periods of the exhibition.

The exhibition titled “New York Toy Stories” display various kinds of toys in the past including dolls, and games. The most prominent item in the exhibition is the Stettheimer dollhouse. Besides, tourists can checkout a separate dollhouse gallery.

The Rockefeller Rooms is located on the 5th floor of the museum. The Rockefeller Rooms display the Baron Robbers recreation of houses.

Public Programs

The Museum of the City of New York organizes several educational programs every year. Some programs are free is you can show the admission ticket.
