Every day, the fishermen would set out and return to the pier in the afternoon. Most of the residents that live in the lower areas of Manhattan are fishermen. Later, there is a market for grain and other general items in the town. After 100 years passed, the market grows larger. The cargo ships are no longer small ships but large ships. The pier becomes insufficient for the cargo ships to dock at the pier. Eventually, a larger dock was built at Hudson River. From that time onward, no more cargo ships have come to dock at South Street Seaport because they move on to the larger dock at Hudson River.
