New York Botanical Gardens


New York Botanical Garden is called a garden of earthly delights by a Wall Street Journal editor. In the Botanical garden, you will get to see all kinds of plants and flowers. The New York Botanical Garden is a center of ecological preservation.

The New York Botanical Garden covers an area of 250 acres. It was originally built in 1891. The first director of the botanical garden is Nethaniel Lord Britton. It is located in the Bronx region in the New York City. Each year, many events are organized at the New York Botanical Garden. It offers the visitors the ability to explore and learn about the different plants.

The Enid A. Haupt Conservatory is a premier greenhouse located in the United States. The park was built as a result of an inspiration from Nathaniel Lord Britton and his spouse. Nathaniel Lord Britton and his spouse, Elizabeth paid a visit to the Royal Botanical Garden at Kew during their honeymoon. They are impressed at the park and decided to build a similar conservatory at the New York City. When they returned, they begin the construction of the NYBG and the Conservatory.

At the Enid A. Haupt, you will have an opportunity to observe the permanent exhibition called A World of Plants. The World of Plants features 11 different habitats from around the world. Visitors will be able to see all kinds of floras and faunas. Some of the natural features found in the conservatory include rain forests, and deserts. Visitors who are interested in visiting the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory can obtain more information from the information booth. The conservatory organizes different shows in each season. The seasonal exhibition show in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory includes Holiday Train Show and The Orchid Show.

The Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden

The Peggy Rockfeller Rose Garden is open from May to September. It is an award winning rose garden. There are more than three thousand species of rose being cultivated in the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden. The beautiful roses will impress the visitors. The roses has a nice fragrant.  Visitors will have a nostalgic trip at the Peggy Rockfeller Rose Garden. There are several varieties of roses in the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden. The rose garden offers both antique and contemporary roses. The antique rose plants in the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden are aged over 2000 years old.

The Home Gardening Center

The Home Gardening Center offers advice for visitors who want to make their garden look like the New York Botanical Garden. Visitors who are impressed with the New York Botanical Garden will be able to find solution to the garden. It offers a number of sample gardens. It also provides instructions on how to make the garden. The handout instructions help visitors to understand the process of making the garden.

The Forest

New York Botanical Garden houses a lush green forest. Before New York City emerged, it used to be a large area of woodland. The New York Botanical Garden houses a 50 acre woodland forest. Paths are being built in the forest so that visitors can take a stroll and enjoy the serene environment. Beside the paths, there are many 200 year old trees. The old trees can also be found near the Bronx River. Visitors can observe all kinds of birds in the forest. Birdwatchers can bring their binoculars to watch a large range of bird species flying here and three.

The Seasonal Walk

The Seasonal Walk is a path that lies around a large flower patch. As each season changes, the flowers color also changes. The spring and summer features a large scale of blooming flowers. In the autumn, the leaves turn red and brown. You will be able to see all kinds of flowers in the Seasonal Walk including chrysanthemum, annuals and perennials.

The Mertz Library

The Mertz Library is one a plant library. It is one of the largest research libraries in the world. The full name of the library is LuEsther T. Mertz Library. It is located inside the New York Botanical Garden. There are more than 1,000,000 plant items in the LuEsther T.Mertz Library. Some of the items are manuscripts about plants. The oldest manuscript dates back to the 1100 A.D. Every botanical research and study is stored in the library. The library also has a large collection of horticulture journals.

The Everett Children’s Adventure Garden

The Everett Children’s Adventure Garden is specifically designed for children aged between 2 and 12.  Children will be able to experience hands on fun in the garden. Children can learn things faster if they are given the opportunity to discover things with hands. The designers of the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden purposely created the garden in such a way that children will experience the plants with all their senses. Each season features a new event. Some of the activities in the Everett garden include Boulder Maze and Touch Tank.

The Family Garden

The Ruth Rae Howell Family Garden allows parents and their children to have hands on experience with the plants. Children will have the opportunity to dig in the dirt. Children can plants seeds and find earthworms in the ground. The special gardening program offers the children an opportunity to grow their own plants in the land. During the winter, the family garden is closed to the public.

Food Options

New York Botanical Garden has a number of food options for visitors who are hungry. There are two dining facilities including Garden Café and Leon Levy Visitor Center Cafe. The two dining facilities cater the food for Abigail Kirsch. Visitors can choose to dine inside or outside. If you want to enjoy the beautiful scenery, you can dine outside.  There is a special place where visitors can go for picnic.
